Carsharing, bike sharing, e-scooters, public transport – especially in urban areas, your own car is no longer the only means of transport. An increasing number of mobile service providers are trying to convince the customers with their services and the related digital applications. In this way, the providers supply a barely manageable range of mobility solutions. Mobility platforms integrate these offers and provide the customer with an overview.
At the present time, none of the available platforms have been come out on top pushing its competitors finally out of the market. Instead, the applications that can be used in Germany cover a wide variety of means of transport, features and regions. As part of the current study “Smart Mobility: Analysis of Mobility Platforms”, mgm is taking a closer look at the current offer of eleven relevant providers of innovative solutions for the mobility sector.
Within the scope of the study Ally, Citymapper, Free2Move, FromAtoB, GoogleMaps, MeMobility, Mobility Map, Moovel, Moovit, Qixxit and Transit are compared and evaluated. Not only the features provided, the spread area and the integrated means of transport are examined, but also the user evaluations and downloads in the Google Play Store and the Apple Store are considered. “People demand innovative, smart solutions that reduce their current mobility needs”, explains Per-Alexander Zimmermann, Principal Consultant at mgm consulting partners and co-author of the study. “With our analysis, we want to provide a guide through the jungle of current applications.”
“Smart mobility platforms already make it easy, fast, inexpensive and environmentally friendly to get from A to B”, says co-author Thies Rathmann, also a consultant at mgm consulting partners. “However, the development of Smart Mobility has not yet been fully developed. Further development potential could arise as a result of advanced networking and intelligent control – for example, in the field of capacity planning.”
